About Inch Size Tapered Roller Bearings

Inch size tapered roller bearings use the ABMA (Timken style) part number system, where the cone (inner ring with rollers and cage) and the cup (outer ring) each have their own number. A complete bearing is a matched cone and cup, written as the two numbers with a slash between them, and many are also sold under a set number. We sell sets as well as single cones and cups.

The prefix shows the duty class, from light to heavy:

  • L: light
  • LM: light medium
  • M: medium
  • HM: heavy medium

A J at the front (JL, JLM) marks a bearing with metric dimensions in the same system. Numbered series without a letter prefix are also here.

When you replace one, read the numbers stamped on both the cone and the cup, because one cup can pair with more than one cone. For metric series, see Metric Tapered Roller Bearings.
